Abstract

A method for producing an acid and/or an alkali metal hydroxide, from a neutral salt by electrodialysis employing a bipolar membrane and an anion exchange membrane and/or a cation exchange membrane, wherein as the anion exchange membrane, an anion exchange membrane made of a polymer having repeating units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein each of R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having up to two carbon atoms, and having an ion-exchange capacity of from 1 to 5 meq/g dry resin, is used.
