Abstract
Shock absorbing sheet material including a sheet of resilient material having a plurality of surface deformations configured to form bubble-like chambers of a first relatively large volume communicatively interconnected through small passageways to similar surface deformations forming relatively smaller chambers. The larger chambers are intended to extend substantially farther out of the sheet mid-plane than are the smaller chambers, such that, in response to the application of a compressive force to the sheet, the applying member will first engage the larger bubbles causing them to resiliently deform and, in so doing, cause a displaced volume of fluid contained therein to flow through the passageways and enter the smaller chambers causing them to distend outwardly to be engaged by the compression force-applying member, at which time both large and small chambers resiliently resist the compressive forces.
