Abstract

A golf club, specifically a driver, has a roughly elliptical face shape oriented so that the long axis of the ellipse is tilted upward at the toe at an angle of 20 degrees or more. This causes better agreement between the hit pattern and the perimeter of the club face, with the important result of minimizing the percentage of impacts which are not completely on the face of the club. This arrangement is for drivers since no other clubs are normally used with a tee and a consequence is that tilting the ball strike region of the face is not helpful for such clubs.
