Abstract
An image reading apparatus according to the present invention includes a image reading device including a color image sensor in which three CCD arrays arranged parallel with each other for reading different color components included in an image of the original, respectively, are formed integrally on one chip, wherein each of the CCD arrays reads the image of the original by a predetermined number of pixels to provide image data, a scanning device for moving the color image sensor and the image of the original relatively in a direction vertical to the CCD arrays, a color discriminating device for discriminating the color of the image of the original for every pixel on the basis of the image data from at least two of the CCD arrays included in the image reading device, and an output device for outputting the image data from particular one of the CCD arrays included in the image reading device and a discrimination result from the color discrimination device in synchronism with each other.
