This invention is directed to an improved clays-stabilized bituminous emulsion composition for use as a surface coating and the like. Such an emulsion includes about 90.0-99.95 parts by weight of an aqueous bituminous emulsion and about 0.05-10.0 parts by weight of a cohesion promoting additive selected from the group consisting of amines, amidoamines and blends thereof having the structural formula
