Abstract
Synergistic surfactant compositions. Polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene copolymers in which the polyether pendants bear carboxylic acid groups or salts of carboxylic acid groups are demonstrated to have synergystic interactions with anionic and cationic organic surfactants to improve the surface characteristics of a solution, requiring unexpectedly low concentrations to obtain specific surface tension values or to attain critical micelle concentrations in aqueous solutions. Compositions containing an organic surfactant and a polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene copolymer bearing carboxyl groups are claimed. A method for modifying the surface properties of an aqueous system by employing such compositions as components of the system is also claimed.
