Abstract

A process for preparing the compound of the formula ##STR1## which comprises treating a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sup.2 is hydrogen, CN or CO.sub.2 R.sup.1 and R.sup.1 is hydrogen or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl with a reducing agent with the proviso that when R.sup.2 is CN or CO.sub.2 R.sup.1 and R.sup.1 is (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl the product of the reduction is heated with an acid. Compounds of formula II wherein R.sup.2 is CN or CO.sub.2 R.sup.1 and R.sup.1 is (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl or R.sup.2 is hydrogen and R.sup.1 is (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl or hydrogen. The compound of formula VII R.sup.1 is (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl. The compound of formula III. The compound of formula I is useful in the treatment of psychotic disorders.
