Abstract
A process for preparing aromatic aldehydes of the formula (1) ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 independently of one another are H, F, Cl or Br, by hydrolyzing a dichloromethyl-substituted benzene of the formula (2) ##STR2## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 have the abovementioned meanings with a from about 1 to about 50% strength aqueous solution of one or more zinc salts of the formula (3)
