Abstract

A cosmetic or dermatological composition contains as an active ingredient at least one arbutoside derivative with the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein: R represents an unsaturated aliphatic or aromatic hydroxylated residue having 4 to 16 carbon atoms, and R' represents a hydrogen atom or the ##STR2## radical. Ar represents a phenyl radical that may be substituted by one or more hydroxyl groups. Applications of the composition include the bleaching of skin and the treatment of pigmented spots.
