Abstract

A method for producing a liquid crystalline polyester, which comprises reacting compounds of the following formulas: ##STR1## and a dicarboxylic acid of the following formula ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 is a bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 6 to 18 C atoms as starting material, for polycondensation in a molten state.
