Abstract

A p-phenylenediamine series color developing agent or a precursor thereof having a substituent A at the ortho-position; Substituent A: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and X represents --O--R.sup.7 or ##STR2## wherein R.sup.7 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic ring and R.sup.8 and and R.sup.9, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic ring, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 may combine with each other to form a heterocyclic ring, and a process for forming an image which comprises imagewise exposing a silver halide color photographic material and thereafter color developing the color photographic material in the presence of a p-phenylenediamine series color developing agent or a precursor thereof having the aforesaid substituent A.
