Abstract

A silver halide photographic material comprises a silver halide emulsion layer and a non-light-sensitive hydrophilic colloidal layer provided on a support. The silver halide emulsion layer or the hydrophilic colloidal layer contains a selenium compound represented by the formula (I), (II) or (III): ##STR1## in which R.sup.11 is an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, --OR.sup.13 or --NR.sup.14 R.sup.15 ; each of R.sup.13, R.sup.14 and R.sup.15 is hydrogen or an aliphatic or aromatic group; Ch is S, Se or Te; R.sup.12 is an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group or --COR.sup.16 ; each of R.sup.16, R.sup.21 and R.sup.31 has the same meaning as that of R.sup.11 ; M.sup.1 is Ge, Sn or Pb; M.sup.2 is Ni, Pd or Pt; each of R.sup.22 and R.sup.32 is an aliphatic or aromatic group; and each of n and m is 1 or 2.
