Abstract

Glaze composition comprises 45 to 75% of SioO.sub.2, 0.1 to below 5% of Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0.1 to 20% of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 to 20% of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, at least one of CaO, MgO, SrO, BaO or Zno in an amount of 2 to 22%, at least one of Li.sub.2 O, Na.sub.2 O, K.sub.2 O in an amount of 1 to 10%, at least one of La.sub.2 O.sub.3, MoO.sub.3 or WO.sub.3 in an amount of 0.1 to 10% and certain other optional ingredients, all percentages being percentages by weight based on the total weight of the glaze composition, the glaze composition having a firing temperature of 950.degree. to 1250.degree. C., and having a coefficient of thermal expansion of 50 to 100.times.10.sup.-7 /.degree.C.
