Abstract

An optical disc playback device of the so-called 'carousel' type comprises a disc transport turntable rotatably mounted within the player housing. The underside of the turntable has an annular ridge with notches formed therein, and the housing comprises a photocouple which detects the presence or absence of the notches. The notches are so configured that each disc-holding section of the turntable has a distinct set of notches associated therewith, and each set of notches includes a central position-indicating notch and disc number-indicating notches disposed symmetrically on both sides of the central position-indicating notch.
