Abstract

The subject of the invention is a process for the preparation of 4-methyl-2'-cyanobiphenyl of formula: ##STR1## wherein a benzonitrile halide of general formula: ##STR2## in which Hal represents a halogen atom, is reacted, in the presence of a manganese salt, with an organometallic derivative of general formula: ##STR3## in which X represents a halogen atom, and the complex obtained is then hydrolysed, which provides the desired compound.
