Abstract

A benzodifuranone compounds of the formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently a naphthyl group or an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl group, which is useful for dyeing or printing hydrophobic fiber materials, is prepared in high purity and high yield by allowing benzofuran compounds of the formula, ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 is as defined above, to react with acetonitrile compounds of the formula, ##STR3## wherein R.sup.2 is as defined above, and then carrying out an oxidation reaction to give the benzodifuranone compound.
