Abstract

The present invention relates to new hydroxybenzophenones containing an ester functional group and to the use of these compounds as UV absorbers in organic polymers. More precisely, the new hydroxybenzophenones are 1,3-di(4-benzoyl-3-hydroxyphenoxy)-2-propanol carboxylates which preferably have a molecular mass of at least 500. These benzophenones can be employed as anti-UV agents in organic polymers, either by themselves or jointly with known benzophenones of lower molecular mass, such as 2-hydroxy-4-alkoxybenzophenones.
