Abstract

A hydrofinishing process for improving the color, thermal and oxidative stability of a base stock for lubricating oil wherein the lubricating oil stock is contacted with hydrogen in the presence of a nickel-molybdenum catalyst, at a pressure in the range of 400 psi to 3000 psi, at a weight hourly space velocity in the range of 0.25-4.5 and at a temperature in the range of 550.degree. F. to 750.degree. F.
