Methyl .alpha.-arylacrylates substituted by a heterocyclic radical and having the general formula ##STR1## where R is alkyl, alkenyl, haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, halogen or aryl, the aromatic ring being unsubstituted or substituted, Het is a five-membered heteroaromatic ring which is unsubstituted or substituted and has from one to three heteroatoms, and A is ethenylene, ethylene, methyleneoxy or methylenethio, and fungicides and pesticides containing these compounds.
