Abstract

A non-immunogenic mixture of hemoglobin based modified monomers and oligomers produced by the polymerization of a hemoglobin based solution in the presence of a three membered heterocyclic ring, i.e. polyether oxirane. The modified hemoglobin composition has a P.sub.50 of at least equivalent to the P.sub.50 of human red blood cell hemoglobin.
