Abstract

An image processing system including an image read section for reading an image on a document, data compressing means for compressing image data as read by the image read section, data decompressing means for decompressing the image data compressed by the data compressing means, an image output section for outputting the image data as decompressed by the data decompressing means in the form of a hard copy, data storage means for storing the image data as compressed by the data compressing means, a page buffer for storing the data of a plurality of pages every page, the data being transferred to and from the data storage means, and control means for controlling the compressing and decompressing of the data by the data compressing means and the data decompressing means, and the data transfer between the data storage means and the page buffer that is done every page. When the image data is transferred from the data storage means to the image output section, the control means reads the image data of two pages from the data storage means and successively stores the image data of two pages into the page buffer, and stores image data of the next page into the page buffer if the image data of one page is read out of the page buffer.
