Abstract

Polymerizable calixarene and oxacalixarene derivates wherein at least one aryl group of the macrocyclic ring has a phenolic side chain of the formula VII: ##STR1## wherein Z is a group containing an acrylate or methacrylate functional group. Linear polymers may be formed from these compounds by free radical polymerization at the (meth)acrylate group. Such compounds and their polymers are capable of sequestering metals.
