Abstract

The present invention provides a device for immobilizing a cannula or sheath which is inserted into a patient's body in a laparoscopic surgical procedure. The device comprises a cannula skirt through which the cannula passes. The skirt contains a leakage cavity therein which is configured to minimize the pull-off forces which would tend to cause a separation of the skirt from the skin to which it is adhered during the surgical procedure. In addition, the leakage cavity provides enhanced flexibility to the cannula skirt so that the cannula can be angled during the procedure without causing excessive stress on the adhesive. A ratchet ring clamp is also provided on the cannula skirt to constrict the cannula skirt and thereby immobilize the cannula after the cannula has been inserted through the skirt.
