Abstract
Apparatus for driving a recording element in a copier/printer, comprises a motor and a speed-reducing, metal belt drive system operatively connecting the motor's drive shaft and an axle used to advance the recording element. The metal belt(s) of such speed-reducing system are preferably made of a material selected from the group consisting of nickel, berylium-copper and stainless steel. The metal belts provide a precision drive which is immune to the backlash and flutter problems associated with gear trains and the like. Also, owing to the torsional stiffness of such belts, belt creep around the belt-supporting pulleys of such system is negligible, and any deflection of the recording element as a result of extraneous 'torque spikes' on the recording element is minimal.
