Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the synthesis of a monohaloalkylferrocene by reaction of hydrogen with a monohaloalkanoylferrocene in the presence of PtO.sub.2 and SnCl.sub.2 as catalyst in an acetic acid medium. In this manner, a crude, particularly pure synthetic product is obtained in a high yield, simply and inexpensively. The monohaloalkylferrocenes are especially useful as surfactants or as intermediates for the synthesis of combustion catalysts for propergols. The present invention also relates to a novel monohaloalkylferrocene, namely 4-chlorobutylferrocene.
