Abstract
A projectile-sabot assembly includes a projectile rod enclosed by a pluray of sabot pieces and a plurality of heat sensitive shape memory alloy metal shims positioned so that when the assembly is fired, the shims heat up and expand to exert separating forces on the sabot pieces.
