Abstract

The rare earth values contained in an aqueous solution of the nitrates of at least two rare earth elements are conveniently separated by first liquid/liquid extracting such aqueous nitrate solution with a liquid organic phase containing at least two P(O)R.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 /P(O)R.sub.4 R.sub.5 R.sub.6 organophosphorus extractants.
