Abstract

A precious metal alloy compression-spring gemstone mounting is made by casting or working a quantity of alloy to form a gemstone mounting in a desired configuration, followed by annealing and heat-treating the mounting to increase its yield strength. A stone is then placed in the mounting and is retained therein by compressive spring force.
