Abstract

Process for the preparation of .beta.-resorcylic acid derivatives of the general formula ##STR1## in which R, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 can be identical or different and denote a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and R.sup.1 and R.sup.4 can be identical or different and denote an alkyl radical, by reaction of a diketone with .beta.-ketocarboxylic acid derivatives in the presence of an alkaline earth metal compound. The derivatives are useful as fragrances, or in perfumes.
