Abstract

A process for manufacturing seamless titanium alloy tubes or pipes having good corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties from a titanium alloy which consists essentially, by weight, of one or more of the platinum group metals in a total amount of 0.01-0.14%, at least one of Ni and Co each in an amount of 0.1%-2.0%, no more than 0.35% of oxygen, not more than 0.30% of iron, optionally at least one of Mo, W, and V each in an amount of 0.1%-2.0%, and a balance of Ti. The process comprises preparing a billet by hot working after preheating in a temperature range of from 650.degree. C. to a temperature 100.degree. C. above the beta-transus point and subjecting the billet to tube extrusion after preheating in a temperature range of from 650.degree. C. to a temperature 100.degree. C. above the beta-transus point, optionally followed by at least one of annealing, cold drawing, and cold or warm rolling.
