Abstract
A halogenated alkyl of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different and each is a lower alkyl group, X is chlorine atom or a bromine atom and Y is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom is prepared in high conversion and high selectivity by reacting a tertiary halogenated alkyl of the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and X are the same as defined above with an ethylene derivative of the formula:
