Abstract

The invention provides a novel process for produing .alpha. -keto-carboxylic acid esters that are useful as intermediates for the preparation of pharmaceutical drugs in high yield by oxidizing .alpha. -hydroxycarbocylic acid esters with hypochlorous acid in the presence of nitroxy radical.
