Abstract

This invention relates to a process for preparing a sulfophenylalkylsiloxane or a sulfonaphthylalkylsiloxane having either of the following formulae: ##STR1## (a) adding an essentially equimolar ratio of chlorosulfonic acid to a phenylalkyltrichlorosilane or a naphthylalkyltrichlorosilane having either of the following formulae: ##STR2## wherein R of formulae I, II, III, and IV is individually hydrogen, halogen, or an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R.sub.1 is an alkylene radical having 2 to 5 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is R or ##STR3## with the proviso that at least one R.sub.2 be ##STR4## R.sub.3 is --H or ##STR5## with the proviso that at least one R.sub.3 be ##STR6## R.sub.4 is R or --R.sub.1 SiCl.sub.3 with the proviso that at least one R.sub.4 be --R.sub.1 SiCl.sub.3 and
