Methods and compositions for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases, chemically-induced irritation and inflammation, and other irritative or inflammatory conditions utilizing the peptide sequences Asp-Ser-Asp-Pro-Arg, Asp-Ser-Asn-Pro-Arg, or derivatives or salts thereof are disclosed.
