Abstract
A system for measuring inter-nodal transmission delays in a communications network interconnecting a source node, a destination node and a plurality of intermediate nodes requests a response from the destination node, receives a response from the destination node and then determines both an issue time at which the request is issued by the source node and a receipt time at which the response is received by the source node. A transmission delay between the source node and the destination node is deterined by calculating a difference between the issue time and the receipt time.
