Abstract
A method for preparing functionalized polymers formed by anionic polymerization, e.g., polystyrene, polyisoprene, etc., generally comprising the steps of conducting anionic polymerization, reacting the formed polymer with a sterically hindering compound such as 1,1-diphenylethylene, in the presence of a polar diluent, such as tetrahydrofuran, and then contacting the polymer so formed with CO.sub.2.
