Abstract

Paraherquamide and dihydroparaherquamide, known compounds, are disclosed as having antiparasitic activity. The compounds are fungal metabolites isolated from the known fungus Penicillium paraherquei, and from a newly isolated strain of Penicillium charlesii. Compositions including paraherquamide and dihydroparaherquamide as the active ingredient thereof for antiparasitic uses against endo and ecto parasites are also disclosed, as well as processes for the preparation of paraherquamide from the newly isolated fungus.
