A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug composition containing as protectants against gastrointestinal injury, H.sub.1 blockers, H.sub.2 blockers, beta-adrenergic agonists, or combinations thereof, and an alkalizing agent and a process for administering such compositions.
