Abstract

A heat-resistant and inorganic shaped article comprising a homogeneous mixture of an alumina powder having an average particle size of 10-50 .mu.m and polycrystalline alumina fibers that are bound together with amorphous silica or alumina. The article has a bulk density of 0.4-1.5 g/cm.sup.3 and a total Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 content of at least 75 wt %.
