Abstract

A magnetic recording medium comprising a substrate, a magnetic layer formed on at least one surface of the substrate and a lubricant, which is present on or in the magnetic layer and comprises at least one of fluorine-containing solid compound of the formulae: ##STR1## wherein X is a divalent group not containing fluorine, Y is a hydrophilic group or a monovalent group having a terminal carbon-carbon double bond, Z is a hydrogen atom or a metal atom, n is an integer of 3 or more, m is 0 or 1, and p is 2 or 3, which has a small coefficient of friction on the surface, improved durability and running stability.
