Abstract

A method for the production of a 1,3-thiazolidin-2-one represented by the general formula II: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 are independently hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, which method comprises causing a 1,3-thiazolidine represented by the general formula I: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 R.sup.5, and R.sup.6 are independently hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group to react with urea.
