Abstract

A positively chargeable liquid developer to be used in making a printing plate by developing an electrostatic image formed on the surface of a printing plate precursor with a liquid developer and then by decoating the non-image area, the plate comprising a conductive base plate having provided thereon an electrophotographic photoreceptive layer, the liquid developer containing image forming particles comprising a resin which is prepared by copolymerizing monomers of formulae (I), (II) and (III) in a copolymerizing ratio of 0.1-9.9 : 90-99.8 : 0.1-10 by weight percent, the resin having a number average molecular weight ranging from 5.times.10.sup.3 to 5.times.10.sup.5 and a softening point ranging from 40.degree. C. to 150.degree. C.: ##STR1## (wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.1 ' and R.sub.1 ' each represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sub.2 represents an straight-chain or branched alkyl group containing 4 to 22 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 represents a hydrogen atom or a straight-chain or branched alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R.sub.4 represents ##STR2## Z and B each represents --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -- (n=1-4), but B may be absent from the group represented by R.sub.4 ; X.sup.- represents an anion; R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 may be the same or different, each being a straight-chain or branched alkyl group containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms, or a hydrogen atom, and R.sub.8 has the same definition as R.sub.3).
