An extruable polyvinyl alcohol composition useful for packaging and molding applications is prepared by melt blending polyvinyl alcohol and thermoplastic polyurethane to provide a product which has low water absorptivity, improved impact resistance, and improved low temperature/low humidity tensile properties.
