Abstract

A photographic element comprising a polymer mordant containing a repeating unit containing a tertiary amino group or a quaternary ammonium salt and at least one reprating unit represented by the formula (I) or (II): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5, which may be the same or different, each represent an alkyl group or substituted alkyl group; R.sup.6, R.sup.7, and R.sup.8, which may be the same or different, each represent hydrogen, an alkyl group or a substituted alkyl group; R.sup.11 represents an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a substituted alkoxy group, an acylamino group or a halogen atom; R.sup.12 and R.sup.13, which may be the same or different, each represent an alkyl group or a substituted alkyl group; L.sup.1 and L.sup.3, which may be the same or different, each represent a divalent connecting group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and n represents an integer of 0 or 1, wherein the proportion of the repeating unit containing a tertiary amino group or a quaternary ammonium salt in the polymer is in the range of from 10 to 90 mol %, and the proportion of the at least one repeating unit represented by formula (I) or (II) in the polymer is in the range of of 10 to 90 mol %.
