Abstract
A method of making a steel band for a double-band press or the like starts with a rolled strip having a tensile strength less than 1250 N/mm.sup.2 of a precipitation-hardenable steel which is subjected to galvanic coating with hard chromium along at least one surface. The band is then subjected to a precipitation hardening heat treatment and as a result of that heat treatment has a tensile strength in excess of 1400 N/mm.sup.2.
