Abstract
An N-(mercaptoalkyl).OMEGA.-hydroxyalkylamide having the formula, ##STR1## wherein n is 2 or 3 and m is 2 to 5 inclusive is employed as a reducing agent in the first stage reducing operation of permanently deforming hair.
