Abstract

Tartrate monosuccinate and tartrate disuccinate compounds of the formulas HO(CHCOOX)CH(COOX)OCH(COOX)CH.sub.2 COOX and CH.sub.2 (COOX)CH-(COOX)O(CH[COOX]).sub.2 OCH(COOX)CH.sub.2 COOX are used to provide anticalculus benefits on teeth. Oral care composition such as dentifrices, mouthwashes, and the like, are provided. Use of the tartrate-succinates in combination with other oral care ingredients such as fluoride, pyrophosphate and antibactrials is also described.
