Abstract

The invention relates to .alpha.-pyrones of formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is chloro or bromo and R.sup.2 is hydrogen, chloro or bromo. The halogen in 4-position can be replaced, for example, by alkoxy, alkylthio or secondary amino. The .alpha.-pyrones are suitable diene components for Diels-Alder reactions.
