Abstract

O-acrylaminomethylbenzyl halides (I) ##STR1## in which X is Cl or Br and R.sup.1 is alkyl or aryl, are obtained by reacting an o-aminomethylbenzyl alkyl ether (II) ##STR2## with an acylating agent, and then reacting the resulting acid amide, preferably without intermediate isolation, with an aqueous hydrohalic acid.
