Abstract
Gravure base inks are prepared by flushing an aqueous pigment with a hydrocarbon solvent solution of a major amount of calcium resinate or magnesium resinate and a minor amount of zinc resinate in the presence of a C.sub.8 -C.sub.24 fatty acid amine or C.sub.8 -C.sub.24 fatty acid quaternary ammonium salt. The solvent to metal ratio is at least 40:60 and the pH is in the range of 4 to 10.
